I do interesting things instead of watching too much of the news and letting it get me down. It really doesn’t seem to change from day today – there’s always some sensational story, some ridiculous presidential tweet, and a lot of commentary the rest of the day over it. So I do interesting things instead of watching the news. I paint, but I’m not a great painter. I write, but I’m not a great writer. I teach, but I’m not the best teacher ever. I try to make something beautiful out of what I see around me, try to notice everything in detail, do my best to listen carefully to people and actually process what they say and do. Sometimes it makes people feel uncomfortable, especially people who don’t really want to be accountable for what they say and do. But it’s my world, and I want to make the best of it. I want to feel it to the deepest level and enjoy it to the highest peaks. Don’t dwell on what’s wrong with the world today, dwell on what’s right. Do something interesting – read from a good book, learn something new, create something beautiful, search for something meaningful on the Internet, not gossip, speak your truths, and be good to yourself. Don’t apologize for what you haven’t accomplished. Instead, pat yourself on the back for what you have accomplished. And move forward with meaning and intention. Seek out the things that bring you joy. I guarantee it works — makes life better.
